Prominent Indian batter Shubman Gill luckily escaped a caught-behind dismissal as Nitish Kumar Reddy dropped a sitter in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 match between India A and India B at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Gill managed a thick outside edge off Navdeep Saini before Nitish's horrible fielding earned him a lifeline in the highly intense affair.

The incident occurred during the ninth over when Gill was stabilising India-A's second innings alongside the experienced KL Rahul following the dismissals of Mayank Agarwal and Riyan Parag. After Mukesh Kumar was dispatched to all parts of the ground in his first spell, India-B skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran considered replacing him at one end, bringing Navdeep Saini into the attack.

The veteran speedster from Delhi had a positive start to the over, conceding only a run off his first four deliveries. His nagging accuracy was instrumental in keeping the India-A batters quiet and inducing a false shot off Gill's bat.

Saini bowled a good length delivery from over the wicket, as the ball straightened a bit after pitching around the fourth stump. Gill, who Saini dismissed in the first innings, was in two minds and played a loose defensive shot away from his body.

As a result, the ball flew off his outside edge, travelling straight to Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had taken a superb catch to dismiss Agarwal earlier. However, the promising all-rounder put down a straightforward chance, giving the Punjab batter a lifeline.

However, despite getting dropped on 16, Gill could add only five more runs to his score before Saini got his prized scalp for the second time in the Duleep Trophy. His dismissal triggered a batting collapse for India-A, as they lost Dhruv Jurel and Tanush Kotian for ducks in quick succession. As of writing, the A team was reeling at 99 for five, with KL Rahul and Shivam Dube holding the fort as their last recognised batting pair.
