Olly Stone exhibited his incredible fielding skills as his stunning direct hit got the better of Dimuth Karunaratne in England's ongoing third Test against Sri Lanka at Kennington Oval. Known for his ability to make the ball talk at a searing pace, Stone earned massive applause from the cricketing fraternity for his electric fielding.

The incident occurred during the seventh over of Sri Lanka's first innings after the hosts powered themselves to 325, riding on Ollie Pope's heroic century. Contrary to expectations, Sri Lanka had an outstanding start with the bat, as Pathum Nissanka played some delightful shots to lead their fightback.

However, Olly Stone's magnificent fielding effort was instrumental in helping England draw the first blood in the innings. Karunaratne was the man to be dismissed, with Stone hitting the bull's eye from quite some distance to stun the former Lankan skipper.

After starting his fourth over with a dot ball, Chris Woakes bowled a back-of-the-length delivery, which straightened a bit after pitching around the fourth stump. Pathum Nissanka punched the ball off his back foot and called Karunaratne for a quick single.

However, an agile Olly Stone quickly picked the ball up and hit the stumps before the southpaw could reach the striker's end. His commendable fielding effort led to the batter's dismissal, as he sustained his rough patch in the series.

Nissanka's fireworks bring Sri Lanka back on track

Despite losing his opening partner cheaply, Pathum Nissanka continued his onslaught on the English bowlers, bringing up a quick-fire fifty. After Kusal Mendis departed for 14 runs, Angelo Mathews joined the in-form opener in the middle. As of writing, Sri Lanka were 77 for two in 13 overs, with Nissanka and Mathews batting on 52* and 2*, respectively.
