Hobart Hurricanes opening batter Matthew Wade averted a scare after Adelaide Strikers wicket-keeper Harry Nielsen witnessed a brain fade moment behind the stumps.

For the 33rd game of the ongoing Big Bash League season, Adelaide Strikers' invited Hobart Hurricanes to bat first at the Bellerive Oval after winning the bat flip contest. Hurricanes openers Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott subsequently walked out to put runs on the board for their side.

However, in a bizarre moment, Matthew Wade bagged a lucky boundary in the very second over of the matchup. Strikers' lead pacer, David Payne, bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside the off-stump to Wade. However, the wicket-keeper batter didn't have enough time to react and ended up getting a thick outside edge.

Interestingly, the ball flew into the gap between the wicket-keeper and first slip but resulted in a boundary as no fielder moved an inch from their spots. Ideally, Strikers keeper Harry Nielsen should have dived to his left for the catch. But he stood still in a bizarre brain fade moment.

Moreover, Aussie batter Matthew Wade not only survived the dismissal scare but also managed to add four valuable runs to his team's total.

Luckily for the Adelaide Strikers, the mistake from Harry Nielsen didn't cost much, as Wade was dismissed later in the fourth over. He returned to the hut with only 14 runs off 12 deliveries. Overton's back-of-the-length slower delivery did the trick as Wade mistimed his pull shot. Coincidentally, Nielsen was the one who caught Wade safely this time.

Having said that, the Hurricanes' winning odds hang in the balance. They have managed to put a respectable total on the board. But the bowlers will have a tough time defending it for sure. A defeat here would plummet the Hurricanes' playoff odds further down.
