Former Indian legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has delivered his verdict on India's choice of wrist spinner for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 and surprisingly vouched for Ravi Bishnoi over Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

The highly anticipated T20 World Cup schedule is out, and India are gearing up for the big challenge by kicking off preparations with a three-game T20 series against Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, during a recent appearance on a Star Sports show, Sunil Gavaskar was asked to pick his preferred wrist spinner from a pool of options that included the names of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

Interestingly, Gavaskar chose Ravi Bishnoi as his pick for India's frontline wrist spinner for the mega ICC event. While Kuldeep and Chahal are relatively more experienced, Bishnoi's fielding skills stood out for Gavaskar. He affirmed that Bishnoi is a better fielder compared to the veteran leg-spin duo.

"Ravi Bishnoi for me because apart from bowling, he is a very good fielder. He is a better fielder than Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal," said Gavaskar.

Additionally, the former cricketer highlighted Ravi Bishnoi's batting skills. He cited the example of an IPL game between LSG and RCB wherein Bishnoi and Avesh Khan smartly won the game for their side with the bat.

"He can bat as well, the way he applied his brains and won his side the match with his calmness in the last IPL. I feel he and Avesh Khan had won their side the match against RCB. So Ravi Bishnoi for me," he added.

Thus, in T20 cricket, the wrist spinner's added skill with the bat could come in handy, believes Sunil Gavaskar.

Ravi Bishnoi recently displayed his heroics during a T20 series against Australia. He not only emerged as the leading wicket-taker for the series but also claimed the top spot in the ICC rankings.

To further add to the intense battle, Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav have been added to India's final squad for the Afghanistan series scheduled to commence tomorrow. But at the same time, Chahal remains sidelined from the selector's scheme of things for the near future.

Regardless, the T20 World Cup is still six months away. Kuldeep, Bishnoi, and Chahal possess equal opportunities to contest for the prized space on the final squad.
