The Trinbago Knight Riders played the St Lucia Kings in the 12th match of the CPL 2024 at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia, Gros Islet. The Knight Riders managed to win the game by four wickets with five balls remaining in the game.

The Kings batted first in the game after Kieron Pollard won the toss and put them in. The Kings had a good start to the innings but soon lost momentum, losing three wickets within four overs.

Chase scored an unbeaten half-century to take Kings to a competitive total

However, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Roston Chase resurrected the innings with an 80-run partnership and propelled them towards a fighting total. Rajapaksa was dismissed in the 18th over of the innings, but Chase remained unbeaten, completed his fifty, and took the team past the 180 mark.

In the chase, the Knights lost Sunil Narine early. However, Jason Roy and Shaqkere Parris laid a strong foundation with their aggressive batting. Jason Roy was dismissed in the sixth over of the innings when he was batting at 16 off 14 deliveries. This brought Nicholas Pooran into the crease, and with his reputation, the expectations were big of him.

Pooran showed his power during his short stay in the middle

Pooran rotated the strike for the first few deliveries but then decided to unleash his power against Roston Chase. On the second delivery of the eighth over, Pooran stepped down to a tossed-up delivery and heaved it over the mid-wicket region, sending the ball to the third tier of the stadium.

Even though Pooran started his innings well, he could not continue for long. Descartes got rid of Pooran in the 10th over when he had 17 runs under his belt off 11 deliveries.

The match started to change complexion after that, and the balance kept changing sides. However, the skipper of the Knight Riders, Kieron Pollard came up with blinder to score 52 runs off 19 deliveries and took the team to a four wicket win with five balls remaining in the game.
