In Match No. 29 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, Afghanistan had a dream start against Papua New Guinea (PNG) at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad on Friday.

Afghanistan's bowlers showcased commendable skill, leading to a swift collapse of PNG's batting lineup, which struggled to build momentum and form any solid partnerships.

The situation worsened when PNG lost their opener Tony Ura, who managed only 11 runs off 18 balls and appeared out of sorts, unable to adapt to the conditions.

The pivotal moment occurred in the 5th over of PNG's innings when Naveen ul Haq bowled a superb delivery to claim his 50th T20I wicket.

He bowled from a wider angle, Naveen delivered a good length ball on off-stump that straightened slightly after pitching. Ura, attempted to defend, was beaten on the outside edge, and the ball crashed into the off-stump.

With this, half of PNG's side was back in the hut inside the powerplay, that reflected a dominant performance by the Afghan bowlers.

Earlier in the match Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and opted to bowl first and this decision turned fruitful for them as bowlers scalped wickets at regular intervals and didn't let PNG batter's settle. At the time of writing, PNG is struggling at 82/7 in 17 overs.
