Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto promoted himself to open the innings against South Africa when they took on each other on Sunday in Match 21 of T20 World Cup 2024 in New York.

However, he failed to make a significant impact, as Anrich Nortje's vicious bouncer, which clocked at 146 kmph, sent him packing after a sluggish knock of 23-ball 14.

Shanto's wicket came during the 10th over of Bangladesh's innings when he tried to pull Nortje's bouncer, only to find a huge top edge. Aiden Markram, who was placed at short mid-wicket, did the rest, as a simple catch completed his wicket.

At the time of writing this, Bangladesh require 30 off 29 balls, having reached 85/3 after 15.2 overs. Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah are in the middle, batting on 15* and 30* respectively, while Nortje is bowling his last over, returning impressive figures of 3.3-0-16-2.

Notably, both South Africa and Bangladesh are yet to taste a defeat in the ongoing edition. If Bangladesh win, it will be a major boost for them in order to reach the Super 8 stage.
