Did Former Legends Accuse This Pakistan Player Of Fixing IND Vs PAK?

In a crucial T20 World Cup 2024 match on June 9, 2024, Pakistan suffered a narrow defeat against India in New York.

Despite restricting India to a modest 119 runs, Pakistan's chase faltered, leading to widespread criticism from former captains Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saleem Malik, who blamed all-rounder Imad Wasim for the loss.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, speaking on 24 News, expressed his disappointment with Imad Wasim’s performance. He emphasized that the onus was on Wasim to take responsibility and play aggressively.

"You needed to maintain a run rate of around six per over after three overs. This loss should not be credited to India but is Pakistan's fault. Imad Wasim was at the crease but did not take the responsibility to hit big shots, even if it meant getting out. If you cannot hit, then get out and let others try. Naseem Shah scored zero runs off three balls, but Imad showed no effort to score. The pitch was good, and you could have hit shots," Inzamam said.

Saleem Malik was more direct in his criticism of Imad Wasim. He accused the all-rounder of deliberately wasting balls during Pakistan's chase, after which they lost by 6 runs.

"Inzi tried to defend Imad, but I must say Imad increased the run rate. He ensured he would stay on the wicket and let the run rate rise. As a batsman, your responsibility is to hit and if you can't, then get out so others can come and score. He wasted several overs and only took runs in the final balls. I regret that Shadab should have come earlier, as he scored runs in the previous match," Malik commented.

What Happened In The IND Vs PAK Match

Pakistan had an advantageous position during their chase, needing only 47 runs from 46 balls with seven wickets in hand when Imad Wasim came to the crease. However, Wasim struggled to score, playing several dot balls and managing only 15 runs off 23 balls.

Pakistan was six runs shy of victory as a result of his inability to raise the scoring rate.

The decision to promote Wasim over the in-form Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed was also questioned by Malik.
