India Under-19 in-form batsman Musheer Khan received an early reprieve from Australia in the final of the 2024 Under-19 World Cup at Benoni. Batting at number three and arriving to the crease following the dismissal of opener Arshin Kulkarni in just the third over of the innings, Khan nicked one towards Australian opener Harry Dixon at slips off the bowling of a charged-up Charlie Anderson.

As it turned out, Dixon ended up making a mess of the opportunity as Khan survived an early scare in his innings.

Musheer Khan survives early scare in tense run-chase

Musheer Khan arrived to the crease after opening batsman Arshin Kulkarni was dismissed by Callum Vidler in just the third over of the innings. Callum’s new-ball partner Charlie Anderson almost accounted for Khan the following over by inducing a big outside edge towards Harry Dixon at slip.

However, Dixon ended up spilling the opportunity at a time when Musheer was yet to get off the mark in his innings.

Musheer Khan has emerged as one of the standout performers of the Indian team this Under-19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa. The 18-year-old star has listed two centuries in the tournament, and tallied 344 runs from just seven innings at a splendid average of 68.80.

Khan’s recent statistics aside, Australia charted a competitive 253-7 from their 50 overs after they won the toss and opted to bat first. Harry Dixon himself scored a fluent 42 at the top of the order while captain Hugh Weibgen and Oliver Peake also slapped handy 40s from their ends. Both India and Australia entered the 2024 Under-19 World Cup final off the back of the remarkable unbeaten run.
