Pakistan made history on Tuesday (October 10) by chasing 345 against Sri Lanka in Match 8 of the World Cup 2023 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. The Men in Green, riding on Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 121-ball 131, chased down a massive target with six wickets and eight balls to spare.

This was the most successful target chased down by any team in the World Cups, breaking the prior record of 325 set by Ireland against England in Bengaluru in 2011.

Rizwan seemed uncomfortable throughout his stay. The wicket-keeper batter appeared to be experiencing cramps and had to take some time to rest because of back pain, but he still managed to complete the task. The subsequent celebrations were therefore wholesome for spectators.

Rizwan and Babar Azam were the first to rejoice in the victory together, and the wicketkeeper lifted Babar with both hands to bring joy to their ardent fans. After that, Shaheen Afridi came to Rizwan, and this time the talismanic fast bowler lifted Rizwan to applaud him.

Rizwan was similarly lifted by Haris Rauf, and Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Wasim Jr. embraced him with joy after that.

It is important to mention that Rizwan's 131 is the highest-ever score by any Pakistani wicket-keeper in ODIs. In addtion, it was also the second-highest score by any Pakistan player in World Cups, after Imran Nazir's 160.
