It is inevitable that drama will occur at some point when Mohammad Rizwan is in the middle. Similarly, on Tuesday, when Pakistan took on Sri Lanka in their World Cup 2023 match in Hyderabad, the veteran wicket-keeper batsman captured headlines both for his batting and for his animated actions.

Chasing 345, the Men in Green lost Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam inside the first eight overs of the innings. Mohammad Rizwan held the fort from thereon alongside Abdullah Shafique, as the pair forged a 176-run stand for the third wicket to regain the momentum.

Shafique fell after scoring 103 balls in 113 balls, but Rizwan fought hard to get the job done. The wicket-keeper batsman was experiencing cramps and was visibly in pain due to back issues, but he persisted and gave it his all to help Pakistan win two straight games.

The shot Rizwan played against Dhananjaya de Silva during the 37th over of Pakistan’s innings caught a lot of attention. The reason behind it was that he collapsed on the pitch soon after smacking a humongous six over long-off.

At the time of writing this, Rizwan has crossed the 100-run mark, as Pakistan have reached 276/3 in 41.1 overs. They, however, still require 69 runs off 53 deliveries to enjoy a memorable victory.
