Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc trapped Oman opener Pratik Athavale plumb in front of stumps with searing pace in match number 10 of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.

Turning up for his country at Bridgetown, the speedster struck in his opening over of the innings to send Athavale packing back to the pavilion for a first-ball duck.

Mitchell Starc gets Oman opener for a duck

Defending 165 runs for a win, legendary Australian paceman Mitchell Starc got the better of Oman opener Pratik Athavale in just the third ball of the innings.

Hurling down a scorching low in-swinging full toss, the ball hit Athavale’s pad with intense pace.

While the on-field umpire Joel Wilson initially declined Mitchell Starc’s appeal for a wicket, subsequent television replays indicated that the ball would have hit the base of the batter’s middle stumps.

Remarkably, Mitchell Starc almost got the wicket of Oman captain Aqib Ilyas later in the same over. While the 34-year-old seemingly struck Aqib’s pads, a review taken by the latter indicated that the ball was pitching outside leg.

Earlier in the match, Australia charted a competitive 164-5 from 20 overs after being invited to bat first. Dashing opener David Warner scored a rather unusual half-century, taking 51 deliveries to score 56 runs.

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis, meanwhile, crashed a 36-ball 67 in the backend of the Australian innings with two boundaries and six sixes to his name.

Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh failed to capitalise on their starts, while danger-man Glenn Maxwell was dismissed for a rare first-ball duck by Oman fast bowler Mehran Khan.
