Swashbuckling Australian batter Glenn Maxwell had a disastrous start to his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign as Oman's Mehran Khan dismissed him for a golden duck in the ongoing group-stage encounter between the two sides. 

The incident occurred during the ninth over of Australia's innings when Oman had just got the prized scalp of Mitchell Marsh. Coming at number four after Mitchell Marsh's departure, Maxwell let his team down with a forgettable outing. 


Bowling his third ball of the over, Mehran Khan bowled a full length delivery, inviting Maxwell for a lofted shot. The batter fell in the trap as he hit it in the air in a bid to score his first runs through the off side field. 

However, Oman skipper Aqib Ilyas Sulehri had other plans as he showcased remarkable athleticism to grab a fantastic catch and end Maxwell's stay. 

Thus, Maxwell, who had a horrendous IPL 2024 season, couldn't start from a scratch, leaving Australia reeling against Oman. 

After he got out, experienced all-rounder Marcus Stoinis joined Warner in the middle to steady the ship. As of writing, Australia were in a spot of bother, placed at 58 for three in 10.3 overs.
