Bengaluru Blasters' skipper Mayank Agarwal found himself trudging back to the pavillion for a second consecutive golden duck in Match 16 of the Maharaja Trophy 2024.

The match, being played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday saw the Blasters up against Mangalore Dragons, who elected to field first after winning the toss.

Mayank Agarwal fell for another golden duck

The pressure was evident as Mayank Agarwal took guard, hoping to break free from the rough patch that had shadowed his recent performances. But cricket, as they say, is a game of glorious uncertainties, and it had another cruel twist in store for the seasoned batsman.

The dismissal came as early as the third delivery of the innings, a moment that would leave the Bengaluru Blasters camp reeling. Mangalore's Abhilash Shetty charged in and delivered a full and wide ball outside the off stump, baiting Mayank into a drive.

The Bengaluru skipper, perhaps eager to stamp his authority early on, went hard at the delivery, aiming to clear the infield. The ball took a thick outside edge, and Mangalore's wicketkeeper Siddarth snapped up the chance with a sharp catch in front of him, leaving Mayank to walk off in disbelief.

This was the second time in as many matches that Mayank had fallen without scoring, having suffered the same fate against Hubli Tigers in the previous game.

Despite the early blow, the Blasters fought back, thanks to gritty knocks from Suraj Ahuja and Kranthi Kumar, both of whom scored 38 runs each. Their efforts ensured that Bengaluru posted a competitive total of 144 in their 20 overs.

With the ball now in their court, the Blasters' bowlers have a mountain to climb. They'll need to defend their total fiercely if they are to secure their fourth win in five matches and keep their momentum going in the tournament.
