Matthew Hayden, the former Australian cricketer, has expressed high expectations for India's star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024.

He also highlighted Rishabh Pant's potential impact and recalled his heroic innings at the Gabba in 2021, where his unbeaten 89 off 138 balls led India to a historic victory over Australia, ending their 32-year unbeaten streak at the venue.

Matthew Hayden Recalls Rishabh Pant's Gabba Heroics

Recently speaking at CEAT Cricket Awards on August 21, Matthew Hayden praised Pant's attacking style and risk-taking approach. He also mentioned his qualities are crucial for a challenging series like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Hayden noted that Rishabh Pant's 'muscle memory' and hunger for victory could once again make him a key player for India, particularly in Australian conditions.

"Guys like Rishabh Pant have got a muscle memory and the thirst for victory. He was such a key player last time he played there and the Australian public loved him as well, because of the nature of the way he played his game," Hayden said.

Hayden further commented on the broader Indian squad and pointed out that a mix of experienced players and emerging talents could position India for a strong performance.

"It was exciting. It was innovative. It was just fresh and good. Then you have got your old stewards, like Virat Kohli, (he) will want to make an impression again. From a batting point of view, I'm excited to see how India have that strategy to take on the Australian conditions," Hayden added.

With the anticipation of stars like Pant, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and others being fully available for the BGT, there is a growing sense of excitement among Indian cricket fans for what promises to be an exhilarating series.
