Matt Henry scalped the maiden wicket of the World Cup 2023 on Thursday (October 5) during New Zealand's tournament opener against England at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Kiwi right-arm quick drew the first blood during the eighth over of England's innings after Tom Latham won the toss and asked the defending champions to bat.

Dawid Malan was the first man to be dismissed, having scored 14 runs off 24 deliveries. The Kiwi pacer bowled brilliantly right from the word-go, and Malan was the one who seemed uncomfortable against him.

It was a length delivery pitched outside the off stump by Henry, which Malan tried to drive, only to find a thin outside edge. The ball went straight to the big gloves of New Zealand's stand-in skipper Tom Latham, who did not make any mistake this time after a mistake prior to that over.

While Malan was struggling from one end, Jonny Bairstow batted aggressively since the beginning. At the time of writing, England have posted 51/1 in 10 overs, with Bairstow batting on 31* off 29 balls while Joe Root is on 4* off 7 deliveries. It seems the match is going to be an high-scoring affair, given the fast outfield as well as a belter of a pitch.
