'Babar Azam': Steve Smith On Which Player Does He Associate With 'Cover Drive'

With the advent of T20 cricket, fans have been treated with unique and exuberant shots by batters who give the audience their money's worth.

However, no shot can match the silken classiness of a perfectly executed on-drive, which makes fans and opponents feel impressed.

In recent times, only two batters — Virat Kohli and Babar Azam — have mastered the shot to perfection, which has also created a division between cricketing fandoms.

Ahead of the Cricket World Cup 2023, the International Cricket Council (ICC) asked players about which player comes to mind when they hear 'cover drive'. 

In the clip shared on Instagram by ICC, Australia's Steve Smith picked Pakistan skipper Azam as someone who the former recalls hearing the term cover drive, upon being asked "What comes to your mind when you hear cover drive?" 

Pakistan players such as Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Imam-ul-Haq, and Hasan Ali instantly answered Azam's name upon hearing the question.

Interestingly, Azam himself makes an appearance in the clip, and when asked about the aforementioned question, humbly replies 'Myself'.

Recently, Smith and Azam faced off against each other when Australia played Pakistan in a warm-up match at Hyderabad, where they each scored 27 and 90, respectively. 

Azam-led Pakistan will start their WC 2023 campaign first, taking on the Netherlands on October 6, while Australia captained by Pat Cummins will clash against hosts India on October 8.
