England and New Zealand are all set to lock horns on October 5 to kick off the World Cup 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The two teams faced off in the final of the last edition, where Ben Stokes emerged as the hero of all after almost single-handedly taking his team to a memorable victory.

New Zealand will miss the services of their full-time skipper Kane Williamson, who is yet to be fully recovered for a 50-over game. England, on the other hand, will come with all guns blazing, with Jos Buttler leading a pack which is stacked with star-studded match winners all over the place.

The stadium was previously known as Sardar Patel Stadium, where the first ODI was played way back in October 5, 1984. How many 50-over matches have been played here since then? What were the outcomes? Continue reading to find out.

The Ahmedabad stadium has hosted as many as 26 ODIs thus far, with the Men in Blue winning 10 of them (in bilateral tournaments). Interestingly, not a single ODI at this venue has been abandoned due to unpleasant weather or wet outfield.

It is important to mention that Ahmedabad stadium earlier was not a belter of a pitch as it seemed during IPL 2023. There, most of the matches were low-scoring affairs. However, do not expect to keep the same thing happening in the curtain raiser of the showpiece event as both teams, boasted of having aggressive power-hitters, are likely to be involved in a run-fest.
