Security Enhanced In Ahmedabad For World Cup Opener Amidst Khalistani Terror Threats

We are a few minutes away from the commencement of the biggest cricketing extravaganza, the ICC World Cup, on Indian soil. While the previous edition's finalists, England and New Zealand, gear up for a cracking contest in Ahmedabad, a concerning news has forced the organisers to enhance security at the venue.

Notably, several Khalistani separatists had threatened to launch terror attacks in several World Cup venues in a bid to spoil the host country's image on the global stage. After a Khalistani leader was killed in Canada, apparently by some Indian agents, the separatists issued a formal warning to turn the World Cup into a terror cup.

Therefore, the organisers have tightened security, deploying around 3,500 police personnel on duty for the first World Cup game between England and New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Furthermore, there will be as many as 16 IPS officers to facilitate the security operations at the iconic venue. So, as it seems, the organisers haven't left a stone unturned to ensure a smooth conducting of the high-voltage clash.

Regarding the game, New Zealand's stand-in skipper, Tom Latham, won the toss and elected to bowl first. While Kane Williamson misses the game for the BlackCaps, England will also be without Ben Stokes, who has been ruled out of the match due to a hip injury.
