Kyle Mayers showed glimpses of West Indian great Chris Gayle as he launched the ball out of the park in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) contest on Tuesday. Mayers had the same stance as Gayle and executed the shot with brute power to stun the bowler.
Mayers is known for his brute hitting and he exhibited it in the BPL during the clash against Sylhet Strikers. Playing for the Fortune Barishal, the Mayers show was at his full-flow as the Strikers' bowlers faced his wrath.
The brute power of Mayers against Topley
He came out to bat when the side lost Tamim Iqbal for a duck. The pressure was on Mayers, but the West Indian batter showcased his class and on a tricky surface, hammered an unbeaten 59 off 31 balls as the Barishal cruised past the winning line.
However, the highlight of his innings was the monstrous six he slammed against Reece Topley. The English bowler delivered a fuller length ball on the pads and it was an invitation for Mayers as he just used his power and flicked it well above the deep square leg region as the ball landed on the roof and went out of the ground.
The way he struck the ball and the power reminded the fans of Chris Gayle, who used to time the ball effortlessly.
Sylhet struggle against Barishal bowlers
Earlier in the day, Sylhet Strikers lost the plot as the team got dismissed for a paltry 125 runs. Rishad Hossain and Jahandad Khan picked up 3 wickets each as the Sylhet Strikers were never really in the contest and gave an easy target for the Barishal batters to chase down, which they did with utmost ease.
