Virat Kohli and controversy are never far away and after the Sam Konstas incident on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test match, it was widely speculated that the Indian star will be the new target for the Australian fans in the stadium.
This is exactly what happened as on Day 2, the entire Australian crowd jeered him and tried to put him under pressure. After the dismissal of KL Rahul, when Kohli came out to bat, he was greeted with loud echo of boos from the Melbourne crowd. The Indian batter loves when the opposition crowd is against him and it makes him a better batter.
Kohli involved in heated argument
He relished the opportunity and looked in ominous touch before the inevitable happened and the great batter was dismissed for a gritty 36 off 86 balls. The latest saga of his love-hate relation with the Aussie crowd took place once he got dismissed by Scott Boland.
When a disappointed Kohli walked off after being dismissed, the hostile Aussie crowd went after him and taunted the Indian great. At first, Kohli walked back without the slightest of fuss, but when the crowd crossed their line, he came back and had a word or two with the crowd as security came up to separate them.
Kohli played his best innings of this tour!
The former India captain did score a terrific century at Perth and batted wonderfully, but that innings came at a time when the wicket eased out a bit.
However, here at the MCG, India lost two early wickets and looked in trouble against a hostile Australian attack. For starters, Kohli was patient and had nothing to do with anything pitched outside the off.
He left those deliveries and was patient enough to pounce on bad deliveries. However, he ran out of the gas and chased one off Boland as Alex Carey took the simplest of catches when Kohli was batting at 36.
