In the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the match between India and Australia is heating up, with Australia taking the upper hand. After posting a challenging total of 474 in their first innings, Australia’s bowlers took control as India began their chase.
India started Day 2 strong, with openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal walking out to the crease. However, Australia captain Pat Cummins, quickly made his mark by dismissing Rohit Sharma for just 3 runs. Soon after, KL Rahul was sent packing for 24, thanks to an unplayable delivery from Cummins.
Jaiswal 'Disappointed' After Massive Mix-Up
Amid the pressure, Jaiswal and Kohli stepped in and tried to steady the ship. Jaiswal was looking good for a century, but a mix-up between him and Kohli led to his run-out for 82 runs, a huge blow to India.
The pressure shifted to Virat Kohli with Jaiswal gone. However, things took a turn for the worse when he was dismissed for 36 runs off 86 balls by Scott Boland in the 43rd over.
Kohli, who had been playing cautiously, edged a delivery outside off to the keeper, and Australia’s fielders erupted in celebration. The miscommunication with Jaiswal seemed to have affected his game. He had been leaving deliveries outside off with ease earlier but this time, he poked at one, giving an easy catch to Alex Carey.
India now faced a tough challenge as both set batters—Jaiswal and Kohli—were back in the pavilion. Meanwhile, Australia, led by Steve Smith's brilliant century and solid contributions from other players, were in control. At the time of writing, India are at 164/5 after 46 overs.
