Abhilash Shetty was brilliant in the 2023 season of Maharaja Trophy and after going wicketless in the first match of the 2024 season, he produced a beauty in the second game to get rid of Shivamogga Lions captain Nihal Ullal in the very first over.

Ullal was cleaned up for a two-ball duck as Abhilash Shetty bowled a fullish delivery on off and the ball swung in nicely to find the gap between bat and pad of the batter to knock over the off pole. Ullal tried to work it towards the leg side, but completely missed the ball and it Shetty once again showed why he is one of the finest new-ball bowlers in the league and the delivery brought back the memories of Pakistan legend Wasim Akram.

After the wicket of Nihal Ullal, Lions lost one more wicket in the Powerplay and soon were reduced to 69-4 in the 12th over. Abhinav Manohar though stepped up big time and hit some lusty blows and took Lions to safer shores. Shivamogga Lions and Mangaluru Dragons have both lost their opening game of the season, and it would be interesting to see who comes out on top in what is turning out to be an interesting game.
