South African speedster Kagiso Rabada hustled Ravichandran Ashwin with a scorching short delivery to bag his fourth Indian wicket of the innings on Day 1 of their Centurion Test.

Ashwin’s dismissal sank Team India further at 121-6 in the afternoon session, paving way for Shardul Thakur to join KL Rahul at the crease.

Charismatic Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin arrived to the crease in the afternoon session after the sudden dismissals of Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, both at the hands of South Africa’s new-ball pacer Kagiso Rabada.

Ashwin countered Rabada threat with two boundaries in a space of six balls, only to find himself falling short of the speed demon the very next over. The Proteas fast bowler hurled down an angling short delivery that reared up on Ashwin, which popped up towards Wiaan Mulder at third slip upon hitting the batsman’s handle.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s dismissal worsened India’s troubles at 121-6, as the visitors lost their third wicket within the opening hour of their post-lunch session.

Kagiso Rabada, meanwhile, earned his fourth scalp of the innings after accounting for the dismissals of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, veteran Virat Kohli and a well-set Shreyas Iyer. Rabada’s pace mate Nandre Burger also dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal and number three batter Shubman Gill to bag his first set to wickets on Test debut.

The ongoing match at Centurion Park marks the opening affair of the two-match Test series between India and hosts South Africa.
