Legendary Australian batter Steven Smith had a memorable outing with the bat as he slammed a valiant half-century in the third ODI against England at Riverside Ground in Chester-Le-Street. However, he couldn't convert his knock into an impactful score, with Brydon Carse' spectacular catch putting his innings to an end.

The incident occurred during the 35th over of Australia's innings when Smith was trying to form a consolidating stand with keeper-batter Alex Carey. Soon after he completed his fifty, England captain Harry Brook brought Jofra Archer into the attack to break the partnership. His tactical masterstroke paid rich dividends for the hosts, with the ace speedster dismissing Steve Smith with a short delivery.

After conceding a solitary run off his first two balls, Archer banged it short, forcing Smith to play a pull shot. As the ball didn't bounce much, the talismanic Australian batter nailed the pull shot towards the mid wicket.

Smith struck it powerfully, with the ball flying towards the fence at a great speed. However, Brydon Carse, who dismissed Mitchell Marsh, exhibited commendable athleticism, holding on to a sensational catch before the ball could breach the boundary rope. His stunning catch left Smith stunned, as the batter gave a helpless reaction after getting out.

Alex Carey Holds The Fort For Australia In 3rd ODI

After playing a sensational innings in the second ODI, Alex Carey once again oozed his class with the bat, slamming his second consecutive fifty in the series. Despite losing partners at one end, the southpaw is still giving England a run for their money in the high-voltage affair. At the time of writing, Australia were 244 for six, hoping for a fitting finish to their innings, with Carey and Aaron Hardie unbeaten in the middle.
