When your team is going through a torrid period, you want your captain to lead by example to turn the tide. However, for England, it did not happen as Jos Buttler’s awful run in the ongoing World Cup continued against Sri Lanka as well on Thursday.

43, 20, 9, and 15 were Buttler’s scores in the World Cup 2023 until today. The English side, boasted of being the double world champions of both ODIs and T20Is, are languished at the bottom half of the points table, having won once in their first four matches.

Buttler desperately needed to make a substantial impact, but it did not happen, as Lahiru Kumara dismissed him for a paltry six-ball eight.

More than what Kumara did, it was Kusal Mendis who dived to his right to grab a spectacular catch. It was a fullish delivery outside the off stump, which Buttler went to drive, only to get a big, fat outside edge. The English skipper was already got dismised twice while nicking behind, and with that, the number has now gone to third.
