On the eve of the second Women’s Asia Cup semi-final, Sri Lanka Women won the toss and invited Pakistan Women to bat first. PAK-W went wicketless in the powerplay with 45 runs on board, thus setting the stage for a strong finish.

However, after Muneeba Ali’s dismissal in the 10th over at 37 (34) score, PAK batted extremely slow in middle overs, with Nida Dar scoring 23 (17) and Fatima Sana finishing with 23 runs off just 17 deliveries.

Pakistan Women stayed alive in the game with two quick wickets in the powerplay. Sadia Iqbal was sensational as she got four wickets in her four-over spell.

However, Sri Lanka Women captain Chamari Athapaththu was the difference between the two sides as her veteran presence proved to be game-changing for SL-W.

She held her ground from one end despite the fall of wickets from the other side of the crease. Athapaththu scored a blistering half-century before getting dismissed off 63 (48) in the 17th over.

Still, the exciting semi-final extended until the final over, with Sri Lanka needing 3 runs off the 6 balls. Nida Dar struck early to knock over Sugandika Kumari on the second delivery.

However, the Pakistan captain slipped a wide off the penultimate delivery, thus levelling the scores. Sanjeewani delivered the final punch with a single, and with that, Sri Lanka Women qualified for the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup final.
