In an exemplary display of precise pace bowling, Perth Scorchers' Jhye Richardson sent Joe Clarke of Melbourne Stars back to the pavilion for the first wicket of BBL 2024-25. Richardson went unsold in the mega auction of IPL 2025 but came out more dominant in BBL.

The much-awaited season of BBL 2024-25 has begun this morning at Perth Stadium. Perth Scorchers locked horns with Melbourne Stars in the tournament opener. But today, Stars chose to bat first. And Jhye Richardson had other plans for them.

In his 6th ball of the game, Richardson brought an early impact by his stunning delivery that sent out Joe Clarke for a duck of 9 balls. Bowling a tight line and length, Richardson kept Clarke under pressure with consecutive dot balls.

Ignored from IPL, Richardson dominates in BBL

Attempting to force a back-foot drive off a short-of-length delivery that moved away, the batter only managed to get a faint edge. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Matthew Hurst made no mistake, completing the catch cleanly. An ecstatic Jhye Richardson celebrated the wicket with a double fist pump, signalling his supremacy over the contest.

The fast bowler was recently snubbed by IPL franchises as he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Earlier, Richardson played for Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings. In four games, he picked three wickets with 10.47 economy.

That being said, the pacer extended his dominance in the contest by dismissing Sam Harper for 1(4). Owing to his brilliance, the Scorchers are on top early into the game, thus putting pressure on Stars.

David Warner to lead Thunder after IPL snub

Former Australian opening batsman David Warner has been appointed the captain of Sydney Thunder for BBL 2024-25 season. His lifetime ban from captaining the side was lifted by the Australian cricket board recently. And so, Thunder reappointed him as captain. He had shockingly gone unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction after being available in several rounds, when he did not get takers.
