Finally there is some respite for David Warner as the former Australian opener is back in the leadership role. Warner has been appointed the new captain of the Sydney Thunder ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League season.

Warner's captaincy ban was recently lifted by Cricket Australia (CA) as he was banned from captaincy for six-years after the controversial Sandpaper gate incident. Warner recently announced his retirement from international cricket, and will now solely focus on helping the Thunder win the BBL.

Cricket Australia's Code of Conduct Commission ruled that Warner's ban which was in place due to the ball-tampering incident in South Africa was lifted and the player is eligible to lead the Thunder in the upcoming BBL season.

Warner previously led Thunder in BBL and he expressed his happiness to be back at the leadership role.

"Captaining the Thunder again this season means a lot to me. I was part of the team from the start, and now to be back with that 'C' next to my name feels fantastic. I'm looking forward to leading from the front and sharing my experience with the young talent coming through," said Warner.

Warner eager for international comeback as he eyes BGT

Recently, Warner revealed that he is willing to come out of retirement if Australia don't get a suitable opener for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Series Vs India. Ever since Warner retired, Australia have tried out Steve Smith at the top, but the move didn't work for them.

As a result, Smith decided to move back to his preferred number 4 position. That means, Australia are only left with Usman Khawaja as their designated opener. Hence, Warner indirectly stated that he is willing to help the Australian team if they need his services.

Warner released by Delhi Capitals

Ahead of the IPL mega auction, the Delhi Capitals released Warner from the side. The Aussie superstar joined the team in 2022 and was also named their captain in Rishabh Pant's absence during the 2023 season.

However, there is a good chance that teams will fight it out for his services, considering his brilliant track record in the IPL.
