'Listless': Sunny Gavaskar Bewildered By India's Lack Of Spirit On Day 3 Vs South Africa

The Indian cricket team’s never-ending struggle to adapt to South African conditions was perpetuated during the ongoing Test at Centurion. The highly anticipated boxing day test turned into a nightmare for the visitors as Proteas unleashed carnage with the ball and continued to haunt India with the bat as well.

An early collapse and Kagiso Rabada’s fifer bundled India to a low score of 245 runs. To further add to the misery, Dean Elgar came out all guns blazing to make his farewell series count. He slammed an impressive hundred on Day 2 to put India on the back foot. Debutant David Bedingham also played an anchor innings of 58 runs off 87 deliveries.

Having said that, the Indian side was expected to fight back on Day 3. However, as soon as the play began, Dean Elgar picked up from where he left off yesterday and didn’t let the Indian pacers settle.

Sunil Gavaskar Wants India To Fight Back!

Elgar surpassed the 150 runs mark in the first hour of the game itself, and India’s lack of fighting spirit left the former Indian cricketer and commentator perplexed.

Sunil Gavaskar, who is also an official commentator for the series, reckoned on air that India has been listless all this morning. Since the proceedings of Day 3 began, the fielding side’s shoulders have dropped.

Gavaskar also opined that to produce a comeback from this stage, the visitors will require a lot of energy and belief in themselves.

Undoubtedly, South Africa has messed with India’s mental strength with sheer dominance. Dean Elgar has left no room for error, and the Indian bowlers have no answers for now.

That being said, Rohit Sharma has taken the new ball as and when it was due. Hopefully, the fresh ball will do some trick to bring India back into the contest somehow.

As of this writing, the Proteas are leading with 78 runs at a loss of five wickets, and Dean Elgar is seemingly heading towards his double hundred.
