Former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan has made a significant foray into politics by announcing his candidacy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India. Pathan will be contesting as a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from the Berhampore constituency in West Bengal.

Lok Sabha elections are just around the corner in India. While the election commission is contemplating on the dates, national and regional political parties' campaigns are already in full swing.

Meanwhile, amidst a wave of cricketers and sports personalities venturing into the political arena across the country, former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan has also decided to follow the heed.

As per the new agency ANI, Pathan will contest the Lok Sabha election from the Berhampore district in West Bengal as a Trinamool Congress representative. The TMC, led by the prolific face of the chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, enjoys a stronghold in the state. The party has won a record number of state elections in the past, and Mamata Banerjee's grip on West Bengal is unmatched.

Thus, Yusuf Pathan, influenced by TMC's strong support system and grip over voters, decided to join forces with Trinamool Congress.

Notably, Yusuf is originally from the city of Baroda in Gujarat. He was born and raised in Baroda and still resides in the city with his family after retirement from cricket. Thus, Pathan's alleged plans to contest elections from West Bengal might seem odd, but surely, the former cricketer must have thought this through.

With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, Yusuf Pathan's candidacy in Berhampore will be closely watched by political observers and cricket fans alike. His entry into politics marks a new chapter in his journey, where he seeks to serve the people of West Bengal and make a meaningful impact in public life.
