Premier bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen emerged as the hero for South Africa as he hit a glorious six to help his side defeat West Indies in a must-win clash and enter the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024. 

The incident occurred in the 16th over of South Africa's innings when the match had already gone down to the wire. 

The Proteas needed five runs off the final six deliveries as West Indies skipper Rovman Powell brought Obed McCoy back into the attack to bowl the last over. 

His decision proved disastrous for the Men in Maroon as the left-arm seamer pitched the ball right in the slot. Jansen's eyes lit up, with the right-handed batter going for glory with a lofted shot. 

He succeeded in his mission as the ball sailed over the long on fence, rewarding South Africa six priceless runs. With the hit, Aiden Markram and co pipped the co-hosts, entering the semis as the top-ranked side from group-2. 

Earlier, South Africa restricted West Indies to a below-par 135-run total, with Tabraiz Shamsi recording a clinical three-fer. Despite Roston Chase's all-round brilliance, the Windies couldn't outclass their opponents, bowing out of the tournament. 

Up next, South Africa will take on the second-placed team in group-1 in the semifinal.
