The last game of The Hundred 2024 between the Manchester Originals and the Birmingham Phoenix turned out to be a shortened affair due to rain intervention at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. In a 30 ball-a-side affair the Phoenix defeated the Originals to qualify for the Eliminator of the tournament. 

Moeen Ali won the toss before the game and put the Originals to bat first. The Phoenix bowlers kept picking up wickets in the five-set affair and restricted the Originals to 41/5 at the end of their allotted 30 balls. 

The Originals needed wickets to start off the Phoenix innings to stay in the game. However, Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett made a meal of the Manchester bowlers and took the game away from them pretty quickly. 

Jamie Smith sets the tone of the chase

Jamie Smith, the most recent Test debutant of England, turned up the heat against the Afghan pacer, Fazalhaq Farooqi in the very first set of the chase. On the second and third delivery of the innings, Smith slammed Farooqi for two huge maximums and got his team going. Even though Smith could not finish the game for his team, the early assault put the Phoenix on the right path. 

After the dismissal of Jame Smith, Moeen Ali walked out into the park and along with Ben Duckett took the team past the victory line with eight balls remaining in the game.

With the win over the Originals, the Phoenix have made it to the Eliminator and will now play against the Southern Brave for a place in the final of the tournament.
