Shreyas Iyer, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, recently took to social media to express his anguish and outrage over the horrific incident of rape and murder that occurred in Kolkata and demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators.
The city of Kolkata witnessed a heinous crime of rape and brutal murder of a resident doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week. The female doctor was on night duty when a few men raped her while she was resting in the seminar haul and brutally killed her.
The crime came to light when the doctor's last remains were found in the pool of blood by hospital authorities. The horrifying crime caused a stir, leading to widespread protests across the country.
Having said that, several celebrities from all walks of life also decided to raise their voices against the heinous crime and use the platform that they have to create an impact.
Iyer expresses frustration on Kolkata incident
Indian cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer was the latest one from the sports fraternity to demand justice for the victim.
In a heartbreaking Instagram story, Iyer expressed his distress over the incident and reflected on how society's views on women and their safety have not changed.
He later demanded justice for the victim and stated that it is crucial for each and every perpetrator involved in the crime to receive strict punishment, and a strong message has to be conveyed to the people of India at large.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is set to return back to action with the Duleep Trophy. He will lead Team D in a three-round robin format.
