Ravichandran Ashwin's promising stint in the middle during the Indian first-innings in the Visakhapatnam Test was brought to an end by an unplayable outswinger from James Anderson, who squared up the capable lower-order bat and took the outside edge against the elegant right-hander.

Anderson brought his class to the fore on yet another occasion for England. Taking the second new ball first up on Day 2, the great fast-bowler worked out Ashwin's technique and fetched another breakthrough for Ben Stokes and company during a critical little phase of the Test match.

Just when Ashwin was looking promising for his knock of 20 and threatening to stretch his partnership with unbeaten centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal, he was done in by a jaffa which shaped up to come into the right-hander before swinging away late to take the outside edge.

Anderson Dismisses Ashwin With Unplayable Ball

Ashwin did the correct thing, playing a forward defensive prod to the incoming delivery. However, the dependable No.8 was thwarted by the late away movement on the ball which Anderson is renowned for generating.

Even though given out on the field, the lower-order batter wasn't convinced he got the nick as the ball also brushed his thigh pad on the way. However, England's review sent him packing and lent another big blow in India's quest to post a sizeable score after being 336/6 overnight.

Anderson would've been delighted to have send Ashwin back, especially after the two had entered a curious rift at the bowling end as the fast-bowler complaint to the umpire about the batter's standing position and his movements, which was disturbing his focus.

For Ashwin, it would've been disappointing to have missed out on a substantial score despite looking in encouraging form at the crease. The great off-spinner needed to post a strong individual score to give himself more runs on the board to upstage England.
