Jimmy Anderson Bags One Of The Rarest Records At Aged 41

When we talk about the greatest ever bowlers to play the game of cricket, one cannot do without bringing Jimmy Anderson into the conversation. With 394 matches and 977 wickets across al formats to his name, the England star is hailed as one of the best swing bowlers the world has ever seen.

Currently featuring in the second test against India, Anderson added yet another milestone to his career. With 41 years and 187 days of age, he is now the oldest player to play test cricket in India. The right-arm bowler went past former Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath (41 years, 92 days) who held the record previously.

He would have reached this milestone had he featured in the first test but England, who recorded a splendid victory in Hyderabad, decided to go in with only one pacer. Now back into the starting XI, James Anderson clearly has a point to prove and put a torturous 2023 Ashes campaign out of his memory.

Anderson's test career has now spanned over 20 years as he made his debut in the year 2003 against Zimbabwe at Lord's.

Ben Stokes on why he brought Jimmy Anderson back

After a successful first test at Hyderabad, Anderson's inclusion in the second test as a lone pacer was highly unlikely. While there were chances of Mark Wood retaining his spot, Ben Stokes revealed the inclusion of Jimmy on Thursday. He said:

"Bringing Jimmy in, we just feel like there's a bit more I can turn to him for. Not only his new-ball skills - reverse skills, his off-cutter skills and stuff like that," said Ben Stokes on the eve of the Test match.

As far as the second test is concerned, India have won the toss and are currently batting, with Yashasvi Jaiswal holding the forte with his 179* at stumps on Day 1. Anderson, in the match, has already got off the mark with the important wicket of Shubman Gill.
