An aggressive streak and a free-flowing, unabashed avatar at the crease remind Naushad Khan of his favourite Javed Miandad, revealed son Sarfaraz Khan, as his father feels reminiscent of watching the Pakistani batting legend whenever junior Khan is belting the bowlers out of the park.

Gearing up for a potential India Test debut on the back of a prolific run for Mumbai and India A in first-class cricket, Sarfaraz revealed watching old clips of Miandad ever since he earned a comparison and compliment from his father, who sees virtues and attributes of the great Pakistani player in his ambitious ward.

Speaking to JioCinema in an interview ahead of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, where he could fulfil his desire of donning the India cap, Sarfaraz said Miandad is one of the players he watches and tries to replicate in the middle and practice sessions alongside fellow legends Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Sir Vivian Richards.

Father Naushad Sees Miandad In Son Sarfaraz

"I like to watch Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sir Vivian Richards, and even Javed Miandad because my dad has told me that I play like him. I watch Joe Root’s batting also," Sarfaraz said.

"Anyone who is succeeding, I am watching them to see how they are doing it so I can learn and apply it when I am in the middle. I want to continue doing this, whether it’s in the Ranji Trophy or playing for India in the future," he added.

Sarfaraz got selected for the Test squad after a painstakingly long wait despite putting in the hard yards in a tremendous run with the bat for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy and recently for India A versus England Lions.

The explosive right-hander averages near 70 at the first-class level after 45 matches, including 14 centuries and 11 fifties. He forced his way into the squad for the Vizag Test after producing a classy 160 versus the touring Englishman with middle-order batter KL Rahul ruled out injured.
