The Melbourne Renegades are in early trouble in the 23rd match of the ongoing BBL clash against cross-town rivals Melbourne Stars at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. After being put into bat by the Stars, the Renegades found themselves in a precarious position, with Jake Fraser-McGurk becoming the second victim of the innings.

Fraser-McGurk, who had been struggling to get going in the opening exchanges, was dismissed in the fourth over of the powerplay. Mark Steketee was the man to strike and send back to the pavilion with a brilliant delivery.

The wicket came from a back-of-a-length ball that angled in towards the middle stump line. Jake Fraser-McGurk, made room for himself and attempted to cut the ball on the off side. However, the ball found the outside edge of his bat and flew low to the keeper, who took a sharp catch.

It was a textbook piece of wicketkeeping from Sam Harper, who was quick to pounce on the faintest of edges. The appeal went up in an instant, and umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger.

McGurk’s wicket brought the Melbourne Renegades to a position of 21/2, as they struggled to establish any momentum in the face of tight bowling. Earlier, Josh Brown was dismissed in the first over by Joel Paris, further compounding the Renegades' woes.

With two wickets lost in the powerplay and a fragile start, the Renegades will need to regroup quickly and steady their innings if they are to post a competitive total. At the time of writing, Jonathan Wells and Jacob Bethell are at the crease and MLR is at 70/3.
