Mumbai's premier batter Shreyas Iyer extended his lean patch in red-ball cricket, as he was dismissed for another low score in Mumbai's ongoing Ranji Trophy encounter against Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Coming at number five, Iyer managed only 17 runs before Aquib Nabi dismissed him.

The incident occurred during the 22nd over of Mumbai's second innings when Shreyas Iyer was trying to steady the ship with skipper Ajinkya Rahane. However, J&K captain Paras Dogra's decision to bring Nabi into the attack proved a masterstroke, as the promising pacer got rid of Iyer, who looked in rhythm during his brief stay.

From over the wicket, Nabi bowled a good length delivery that straightened off the deck after pitching around the corridor of uncertainty. As Iyer tried to nudge the ball through the off side, the ball took a thick outside edge off his bat, with J&K wicket-keeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan taking a sharp catch behind the stumps.

Despite the umpire giving him out, Shreyas Iyer got confused if to stay at the middle or walk back to the dugout. There was some confusion regarding the fairness of the catch, as Iyer was involved in a verbal argument with the on-field umpires.

Nevertheless, as the umpire confirmed that he was out, the batter started walking back to the hut with disappointment written all over his face.

Shardul, Kotian Keep Mumbai Alive vs J&K

Meanwhile, despite losing seven wickets, Mumbai are alive in the contest, thanks to a valiant partnership between Tanush Kotian and Shardul Thakur. As of writing, Mumbai were 188 for seven, with Kotian and Shardul batting on 34* and 53*, respectively.
