On Thursday, Mumbai will lock horns with Jammu and Kashmir in their sixth round match of the ongoing Ranji Trophy competition. The much-awaited clash will take place at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai.

Mumbai's upcoming encounter against J&K will mark Rohit Sharma's Ranji Trophy return after a long hiatus. Rohit, who led India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, received massive backlash for a string of horrendous outings Down Under. Therefore, this match holds significant importance for the veteran batter, as he will audition for the England Tests in June.

As the domestic giants gear up for the mega clash, let's analyse and find out their probable playing XI for this match.

Top Order: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ayush Mhatre

Rohit Sharma will likely open the batting with his national teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal, with the in-form Ayush Mhatre playing at number three. Therefore, Rohit could replace Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who has been a bit inconsistent with the bat in the tournament.

Mhatre is in sublime form, having amassed the second most runs for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Thus, Mumbai's top-order is definitely going to be their strength in this match.

Middle Order: Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Akash Anand

Skipper Ajinkya Rahane will likely bat at number four, while Shreyas Iyer will play at the crucial number five position. Iyer has oozed his class, scoring the most runs for Mumbai this season. Meanwhile, keeper-batter Akash Anand will likely bat in the lower middle order and don the wicketkeeping gloves.

All-Rounders: Tanush Kotian, Shams Mulani, Shardul Thakur

Mumbai have a formidable all-round trio of Tanush Kotian, Shams Mulani and Shardul Thakur. Kotian and Mulani can outfox the J&K batters with their guile and variations, while Thakur's pace bowling skills might come in handy for Mumbai at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy.

Fast Bowlers: Mohit Awasthi, Royston Dias

Mohit Awasthi and Royston Dias could play as Mumbai's two seamers, as the surface at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy is expected to offer a hint of seam movement to the fast bowlers, especially on the first two-three days.
