The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction is set to take place later this year, and all franchises, including Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), are strategizing their player retentions. As per the new retention regulations, each franchise is allowed to retain up to six players using the Retentions and Right to Match (RTM) options. Notably, there is no limit on the number of overseas players that can be retained.

Under the IPL 2025 retention rules, franchises can retain a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players. However, the total number of retained players must not exceed six, with one of them being an uncapped player. In some scenarios, teams may opt to retain two uncapped players. With these rules in mind, SRH will likely focus on retaining key talents from their 2024 squad, especially uncapped players who could be future stars.

SRH have had a strong showing in IPL 2024, reaching the final but falling short to Kolkata Knight Riders. As they prepare for the 2025 season, the team will likely seek to build on that momentum by retaining their young, promising talents. Here are uncapped players SRH might retain.

Nitish Kumar Reddy

Nitish Kumar Reddy emerged as one of SRH's most consistent performers in IPL 2024. Reddy has been performing well with his bat and has been a standout player in both domestic cricket and the IPL. With his impressive performances, Reddy showed glimpses of his potential. In the previous tournament, the Andhra batter scored 303 runs in 13 matches, including two half-centuries, at a strike rate of 142.92.

However, Nitish Reddy has been included in India’s T20I squad for the Bangladesh series, which could elevate his status to a capped player. This might affect SRH’s retention plans, as retaining him as an uncapped player would be more cost-effective. Nevertheless, given his utility and consistent performances, SRH is likely to retain him, regardless of his status.

Abdul Samad

Another strong contender for uncapped retention is Abdul Samad. The 22-year-old has been part of SRH since 2020 and was retained ahead of the 2022 mega auction. While Samad's performances have been inconsistent, he displayed glimpses of his ability with some crucial cameos in IPL 2024. He scored 182 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 168.52. SRH might retain him as an uncapped player if Nitish Reddy is categorized as a capped player.
