The Big Bash League 2023-24 (BBL|13) season hosted Melbourne derby earlier on Tuesday as Melbourne Stars clashed with Melbourne Renegades at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

In a rain-hit game, Renegades put up 97 runs on board at the end of 14 overs. Meanwhile, Thomas Rogers of the Stars slammed 46 runs off 34 deliveries to produce a flyer start.

Moreover, the fall of a couple of wickets in the middle promoted captain Glenn Maxwell to walk to the middle. With the required run-rate under control, Maxwell took his time initially before transforming into his traditional self.

Glenn Maxwell picked loose deliveries to play his signature unusual shots, including the switch hit. However, this time around, the all-rounder produced an unthinkable shot, which left the spectators and commentators alike in awe.

Maxwell's innovative shot woos the crowd

In the ninth over of the chase, Maxwell picked up Kane Richardson’s good length delivery. However, with the line being too wide outside the off-stump, Maxi played a cheeky shot to shoot the ball to the boundary. He waited too late to guide it past the keeper, opening the face of the bat and nudging it towards fine of thirdman.

With that, Maxwell added crucial four runs to the team’s total as Melbourne Stars secured a comprehensive win with a couple of overs to spare. Not only that, but the win took Stars to third position on the points table.

Speaking of Glenn Maxwell, he is enjoying his time in BBL after a gruesome ODI World Cup stint. While Australia emerged victorious, Maxwell sweated a lot to keep his team’s campaign afloat.

Thus, ahead of the crucial T20 World Cup, the all-rounder is taking some time off from international cricket.

Having said that, Australia is scheduled to square off with West Indies in an ODI series later this month. Glenn Maxwell is expected to feature, and in case the regular squad decides to rest, the all-rounder could also be seen leading his side as well.
