Team India is currently gearing up to face South Africa in the second test scheduled to be played from January 3 in Cape Town. They lost the series opener by an innings and 32 runs at Centurion, and they will look to level the series by winning this match.

The first test at Centurion witnessed a dismal performance from the Indian batting unit. Only KL Rahul and Virat Kohli displayed commendable form with the bat, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer struggled in their first South African assignment.

In the first innings for India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer scored 17, 2, and 31 runs respectively. Meanwhile, their second-inning performance wasn't any better, as Jaiswal and Iyer registered single-digit scores, while Gill managed 26 runs.

However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has decided to place his trust in the trio. He noted that this South African tour was their first, expressing confidence that it will serve as a valuable learning experience for their future careers.

Here’s what Rohit said the press-conference:

“These three guys Shubman, Shreyas and Yashasvi haven't played a lot in South Africa but have been part of the team for a number of years. When you perform against a team like the Proteas, it gives you tremendous confidence.”

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma himself looked far from his best in the first test against South Africa, scoring 5 and a duck. He will surely aim to bounce back stronger in the second test at Cape Town, as it will be a do-or-die test for India if they intend to avoid a clean sweep.
