Shubman Gills departs [Source: @kuchnahi1269083/X.com]
Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill started strong in their IPL 2025 match against Punjab Kings but couldn’t stay for long. He played an attacking knock, scoring 33 runs off just 14 balls, hitting three sixes and two fours. However, his innings was cut short at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 25.
Glenn Maxwell Draws First Blood For PBKS
The moment happened in the sixth over of GT’s innings when Glenn Maxwell came in to bowl. Before the powerplay could end, Maxwell struck a big blow, dismissing the young star. It was Punjab Kings’ first major breakthrough, and Maxwell’s first wicket of the match.
Gill tried to attack a flighted delivery around leg stump, stepping out to play a big shot on the leg side. However, he closed the bat face a little too early, resulting in a leading edge that went high in the air towards the off side. Priyansh Arya, positioned at covers, calmly took the catch, sending Gill back to the pavilion. He looked disappointed as he walked off.
Interestingly, this dismissal felt like déjà vu. It was almost identical to the way Maxwell got Gill out during the ODI World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia; and on the very same ground!
Earlier in the match, Punjab Kings posted a massive total of 244 runs, thanks to a brilliant 97-run unbeaten knock by Shreyas Iyer. He was well supported by Shashank Singh, who played a quick 44 run cameo*, and debutant Priyank Arya, who impressed with 47 runs. GT had a tough chase ahead of them.
