Shreyas Iyer Smashes Stunning Knock Against GT
Stepping in as Punjab Kings’ new captain, Shreyas Iyer instantly made an impact. He dominated the bowlers, smashing boundaries all over the stadium. As the innings neared its end, Iyer was just three runs away from scoring a century in the final over; his first as PBKS captain.
However, instead of focusing on personal milestones, he encouraged his partner, Shashank Singh, to continue playing his natural game.
"Let's be honest. Shreyas from ball one told me, Shashank don't be like I am getting a hundred. Just play your shots well. Kudos to him that he spoke to me before the last over. I was not thinking much. I was watching the ball closely and reacting to it. In this level, if I pre-determine to much then I will be behind. It was pretty simple for me. See the ball, hit the ball, " Shashank Singh said during the innnings-break presentation.
Shashank Singh also played a great cameo of 44* runs. Meanwhile, it was Punjab Kings' opener Priyansh Arya, who also contributed with his bat, scoring 47 runs before falling to Rashid Khan's spin.
Shreyas Iyer’s actions clearly showed that he prioritised the team’s success over individual glory. This was his first match as captain, and he made sure to guide Punjab Kings to a strong position, setting a challenging target for Gujarat Titans to chase.
