It seems like the Kolkata Knight Riders retained the wrong Iyer in their team as Shreyas Iyer, who was not retained by the Kolkata side smacked an unbeaten 97 against Gujarat Titans on his debut game Vs Gujarat Titans. Captaining the Punjab Kings, Iyer made a huge statement with his breath-taking knock.
Iyer misses out on dream hundred
He was at 97 in the last over of the match, but Shashank Singh at the other end smacked Mohammed Siraj to four boundaries in a row and ended Iyer's century dream. Had Iyer achieved the three-figure mark, he would have become the 13th Punjab Kings player to slam a century.
Shreyas Iyer walked into bat at number 3 and never looked back as he started with barrage of boundaries and made a mockery of the GT bowling lineup. Once he crossed the 50-run mark, Iyer went on a rampage as the Punjab captain smashed 5 fours and 9 sixes and struck at 230. At one stage he was set to achieve the hundred, but Shashank went berserk in the end and the strike never came to Iyer.
Punjab score 243/5
Punjab opening batter, Priyansh Arya started the carnage as he hammered 47 off 23 balls and laid the foundation for a huge total.
Punjab lost a flurry of wickets in the middle, but Iyer kept going and alongside Shashasnk Singh, took GT to the cleaners as the Punjab side made a statement with a score of 243/5, which is the highest total at this venue.
