The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 match between India Women U19 (INDWU19) and Sri Lanka Women U19 (SLWU19) had plenty of thrilling moments, but one that stood out was a brilliant run-out by G Kamalini that reminded fans of MS Dhoni’s legendary reflexes.
India, defending a modest total of 118/9, started strong with the ball, reducing Sri Lanka to 9/3 in no time. The pressure mounted as Sri Lanka’s captain, Manudi Nanayakkara, walked in to rescue her team. However, her stay at the crease was short-lived, thanks to a moment of sheer brilliance by the Indian fielding unit.
It happened in the 5th over of the innings when Shabnam Shakil bowled a full delivery on the pads. Nanayakkara clipped the ball to square leg and called for a quick second run. However, her partner Rashmika hesitated, sensing trouble. The fielder, Joshitha, sprinted to the ball and fired a sharp throw to Kamalini, who whipped off the bails in a flash.
The captain was caught well short of her crease, and the run-out was nothing short of a “suicidal” call by Nanayakkara. The quick thinking and precise execution by Kamalini instantly drew comparisons to MS Dhoni’s iconic dismissals behind the stumps.
IND-W Dominate Against SL-W
India’s bowlers continued to dominate, bundling out Sri Lanka for just 58 runs in their 20 overs. None of the Sri Lankan batters, except Rashmika Sewwandi, could cross double digits. For India, the bowling attack was a collective effort, with Parunika Sisodia, Shabnam Shakil, and VJ Joshitha picking up two wickets each.
India Women U19 claimed a resounding 60-run victory, topping Group A with an unbeaten record.
