In exciting news for Indian cricket fans, Karnataka batter KL Rahul is all set to play in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Haryana on January 30 at his home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
KL Rahul had been dealing with an elbow niggle but has now recovered and is ready to feature in the match. He will be playing for Karnataka, which is led by Mayank Agarwal. This marks a significant return for Rahul as he aims to get back to full fitness.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has encouraged Indian players to take part in domestic cricket, with exceptions only in rare cases and requiring formal approval. This move is to help players maintain match fitness and readiness for upcoming international commitments.
KL Rahul Included In Champions Trophy Squad
In addition to playing in the Ranji Trophy, Rahul has been selected for India's ODI squad for their upcoming three-match series against England, starting on February 6. He will also represent India in the ICC Champions Trophy, which kicks off on February 19.
KL Rahul isn’t the only big name playing in the Ranji Trophy this season. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are part of the Mumbai squad, currently playing against Jammu and Kashmir. Shubman Gill is representing Punjab in their game against Karnataka, while Rishabh Pant is in Delhi’s squad facing Saurashtra.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli will not be part of the Delhi squad for this round of the Ranji Trophy. Kohli picked up a neck sprain during the fifth and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar series and had to take an injection for recovery.
The last time KL Rahul was seen playing domestic cricket was in the Duleep Trophy 2023, where he scored 94 runs in 2 innings at an average of 47.00.
