Much like four out of the five teams, Mumbai Indians also acquired the services of four cricketers during the recently concluded Women’s Premier League 2025 auction in Bengaluru. Left with just INR 45 lakh, the franchise spent the second-highest amount of money to put together an 18-member contingent.
As predicted on the eve of the auction, MI successfully snapped South Africa all-rounder Nadine de Klerk to bolster their army of all-rounders. In what is an outright strength of the franchise, it allows captain Harmanpreet Kaur to take the field with an additional batter or not bowl her inexperienced specialist bowler.
G Kamilini To Debut
Born exactly 50 days after the completion of the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batter G Kamilini will never forget December 15, 2024.
Representing India U-19 for the first time, the left-handed batter scored 44* (29) to propel her team to a 68-run chase in the eighth over in a Player of the Match effort. On the same day, Kamilini not only received her maiden WPL bid but witnessed her price jumping to a whopping INR 1.6 crore.
Fourth-highest expensive player in the history of MI Women, Kamilini could well become the youngest player in the history of WPL. With the amount of money spent on her, it is no longer a secret that Mumbai would look to groom her as much as possible by throwing her into the limelight straightaway.
With wicket-keeper batter Yastika Bhatia nursing a wrist injury at the moment, don’t be surprised to see Kamilini opening the batting alongside West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, if needed.
Even though Indians didn’t qualify for WPL 2024 finals, one doesn’t see them making more changes to their Playing XI.
