In a disappointing turn of events for Madhya Pradesh's Venkatesh Iyer, the all-rounder twisted his right ankle while batting during the Ranji Trophy match against Kerala at Greenfield Stadium. The injury seems quite serious, and Iyer was in visible pain as he limped off the field.
Kerala won the toss and opted to bowl first, putting Madhya Pradesh in a tough spot. The wickets began to fall quickly, and MP found themselves struggling at 50/4. Iyer stepped in to replace departing Harpreet Singh Bhatia, but things didn’t go as planned. He faced just 3 balls before being sent back to the dressing room, scoring only 2 runs, due to his ankle injury.
While the injury is expected to take up to one to six weeks for recovery, there’s still hope for Iyer’s participation in the upcoming IPL season. The 2025 IPL is set to begin on March 21, and there’s a chance that he might be fit in time to play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their opening match at Eden Gardens.
Will Venkatesh Iyer Be Ready for IPL 2025?
A twisted ankle, though painful, generally takes around one to six weeks to heal completely. Given that the IPL starts in March, it’s likely that Iyer will be available for KKR’s first game. Fans will be keeping an eye on his recovery and hoping to see him back in action soon.
Meanwhile, the match was turning into a nightmare for Madhya Pradesh. M. D. Nidhessh was in top form, taking down MP's top order. Both openers, Harsh Gawli and Himanshu Mantri, were dismissed early for 7 and 15 runs, respectively. Rajat Patidar was out for a duck, and Harpreet Singh Bhatia also didn’t last long, going for just 5 runs.
